Philharmonic cancels rest of 2020-21 season due to Covid
The New York Philharmonic has cancelled the rest of its 2020-21 season due to the continuing Covid-19 pandemic. The Philharmonic had already cancelled its fall concerts through December. Friday’s announcement zeros out the orchestra’s events from January through June.
This is the first time in its 178-year history that the New York Philharmonic has been forced to cancel an entire concert season.
The Philharmonic’s cancellation marks a trend among the country’s top symphonic ensembles, with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Chicago Symphony Orchestra also cancelling all or most of their 2020-21 seasons this week.
